“Self Portrait”

I was inspired by Vincent van Gogh to explore the concept of portraits. This is my first interpretation of what potentially feels like an emerging series. I used a reflective canvas to represent a mirror. The outline traces various shadows cast both through natural and artificial light sources. I thought to apply sheer layers as a way to show the nuanced hues that reflect back when one looks into the mirror. The colours were also chosen randomly and are incoherent to the image, representing the misalignment of one’s expectation to the unseen – and perhaps unseeable – aspects of reality.⁣
